Phone Radiation Levels

How many of you know that you will be loosing more and more of your energy just by using your cell phone.

Phone makers publish information on the Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) of their handsets.

SAR shows the absorption of energy by the human body in watts per kilogram (W/kg). The upper limit adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Singapore is 2.0 W/kg.

Cell-phone use is harmful to your health.

The EMF Collaborative study concludes that the cancer risks of cell phones are grossly underreported and that the most commonly cited studies on cell phone safety are fundamentally flawed.

There is currently no conclusive evidence to support a link between phone radiation and cancer. Following several conflicting findings from studies, WHO has called for further mobile phone tests to be conducted.

George Carlo, a public health researcher who spearheaded a three-year, $27 million research program for the cellular telephone industry on possible health risks associated with such devices said in his report that the radio frequency radiation from wireless phone antennae "appears to cause genetic damage in human blood," while another case study uncovered a "statistically significant increase" in neuro-epithelial brain tumors among cell phone users.

Buying a new cell phone isn’t your only option for limiting your exposure to cell phone radiation. Keeping your phone away from your head and body is the best thing you can do.

Here are some tips adapted from EWG’s guide to reducing cell phone radiation exposure:

* Use speakerphone or a headset. There’s no consensus on whether it’s safer to go with a wired or wireless headset, but headsets emit less radiation than cell phones.

* Send text messages instead of talking. Phones use less power and therefore emit less radiation to send text than voice. It also keeps radiation away from your head.

* Stay off the phone when you have a poor signal. Your phone will emit more radiation to get the signal to the tower when there are fewer signal bars on your phone.
